Centennial since Foundation of the Opera of the National Theatre in Belgrade Celebrated with a Gala Concert on the Sava Promenade

In order to celebrate a hundredth anniversary of foundation of the Opera Company of the National Theatre in Belgrade, a Gala Concert titled Opera on Water was held on the Sava Promenade, a pedestrian part of ‘Belgrade on Water’, on Saturday 14th September.

In this beautiful ambience near the Sava, more than 1000 viewers enjoyed popular arias and choruses from well known operas, which are for the most part on the regular repertory of the National Theatre, such as The Barber of Seville, Carmen, Adriana Lecouvreur, Nabucco, Don Carlos

Within the programme, the overture from The Bat by Strauss, Waltz no.2 from Suite for Variety Orchestra by Shostakovich and Romanza by Spanish composer Pablo Sorozabal, were performed as well.

The concert triumphantly closed with the Chochek Dance from Petar Konjović’s opera Koštana, written after Borislav Stanković’s play.

Principal singers of the Opera of the National Theatre in Belgrade, Vladimir Andrić, Nenad Jakovljević, Snežana Savičić Sekulić, Jelena Vlahović, Dušan Plazinić, Janko Sinadinović, Dejan Maksimović, Dragoljub Bajić, Sanja Kerkez and Biljana Trmčić, member of the Choir, performed in the concert, with participation of the Orchestra and Choir, under the baton of Đorđe Pavlović and Đorđe Stanković, directed by Ivana Dragutinović Maričić.

Sanja Anastasia, a mezzosoprano from Germany, performed in the concert as a special guest.

This first-rate cultural event was a gift to Belgrade citizens and to all visitors of Serbian capital city, as well as to those who saw the direct broadcast of the concert on the second channel of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, and this year as well, the concert promoted the spirit of Serbian capital as a cosmopolitan city with a rich artistic tradition.

Let us reiterate that one year ago, on 22nd September, a spectacular concert on occasion of 150th anniversary of the National Theatre in Belgrade was held at the same location.
